Johor factory partially destroyed in fire

JOHOR BARU: A storage area at a factory on Jalan Sungai Tiram, Batu 4 1⁄2, Ulu Tiram was gutted in a fire on Tuesday (Nov 23).

Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Salleh KVP Mohamed said the department received an emergency call at 6.33am.

He said 17 firefighters from Johor Jaya and Tebrau Fire and Rescue Departments were deployed to the scene.

“We were also assisted by four firefighters from the Ulu Tiram Volunteer FireFighter and Rescue Team,” Mohd Salleh said in a statement.

He said two Fire and Rescue Tender (FRT) and one Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) vehicles from Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Department were used in the operations.

Mohd Salleh said polyethylene foam (PE Foam) was stored in the storage area when the incident happened.

PE Foam is often used for high sensitivity products that require strong shock absorbency because of its superior ability to dampen vibrations.

“The fire destroyed about 50% of the factory building,” he said.

Mohd Salleh said the cause and losses suffered are still under investigation.

The fire was put out at around 9am.
