JOHOR BARU: A scrap metal collector was arrested for trespassing into an old folks’ home at midnight, where he also performed lewd acts on a 71-year-old female resident.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the 45-year-old suspect trespassed into the home in Seri Alam here through a window on the ground floor at around 12.30am on Wednesday (Nov 10).

“The suspect then proceeded to perform indecent acts on the elderly woman who was sleeping at the time.

“His actions were caught on the home’s CCTV.

"The home’s owner lodged a police report at around 8.30am after learning about the incident from one of the home’s employees,” he said on Thursday (Nov 11).

He added that about eight hours after receiving the report, a team of police successfully arrested the suspect, who fit the description based on the CCTV footage, in the Desa Cemerlang area.

“The police team also found a T-shirt with red, white and blue colours, dark blue trousers and a pair of slippers believed to be worn by the suspect during the incident.

“The suspect has a police record with one prior criminal offence and three drug offences. However, his urine test came out negative for drugs,” he said.
