KUALA LUMPUR: Umno supreme council member Datuk Arman Azha Abu Hanifah has been sworn in as a senator before Senate president Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim in the Dewan Negara.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has consented for his appointment to take effect from Tuesday (Oct 26) until Oct 25, 2024.
Arman Azha, 46, said that his appointment will be an opportunity and space for more youth leaders to be represented in the Dewan Negara and to participate in the country's policy making body.
"For me, this is not something simple, but I promise I will uphold my duties responsibly for the betterment of the rakyat and the country," he told a press conference in Parliament.
He said he would focus on raising youth related issues and to improve the welfare of the rakyat, especially vulnerable groups in the cities.
Arman Azha, who holds a master’s degree in political science from the Geomatika University College, Kuala Lumpur is the director of Asia Coding Centre Sdn Bhd.
Earlier during the ceremony, Dr Rais reminded Arman Azha to carry out all of his responsibilities in the best manner and to fulfil his oath of office.
"When we are out there, we have to observe the meaning of the oath that we have taken.
"In my opinion, in terms of constitution and law, the oath should be the 'window' of the rule of law or the seriousness and dignity of the highest law.
"As the newest member of Dewan Negara, I would like to remind you that when conducting your work, your conduct, speeches and active participation, outside the Dewan, is being judged and monitored by the public," said Rais.
