Pre-teen girl dies after falling from apartment in Putrajaya

PUTRAJAYA: An 11-year-old girl died while receiving medical treatment after she fell seven stories from an apartment unit at Presint 5 here.

Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the incident occurred at 6.14pm on Monday.

"We received a distress call from members of the public about the incident involving the 11-year-old child.

"After the girl fell, she was rushed to the Putrajaya Hospital by ambulance and was in critical condition," he said when contacted on Tuesday (Oct 26).

He said the girl however was pronounced dead at around 7pm at the hospital.

"Investigations revealed the girl's 42-year-old father worked as a researcher while her mother, 38, worked as an assistant finance administrator.

"Our checks revealed the victim was staying at home with her 14-year-old sister and seven-year-old brother at the apartment while their parents were working," he said, adding that the girl locked herself in her bedroom by herself as she was supposed to be studying online.

He said the grill for the bedroom window however was not locked at the time of the incident.

"At around 6pm, her parents had come home from work and noticed that her room door was locked.

"They opened the door with a spare key and realised that their daughter was not in the room and the window and grill were ajar.

"They rushed downstairs and found a crowd gathered around their daughter who was lying motionless on the ground," he said, adding that investigations so far have ruled out foul play.

He said investigations revealed the girl suffered two broken wrists and a broken left leg.

"The cause of death will only be known once a post mortem is done. The post mortem will be scheduled once the Covid-19 results come back.

"Our investigations are now focussed on how the incident took place," he said adding that there were no CCTV 's at the apartment unit.
