Covid-19: Sultans call for Malaysians to get vaccinated in Maulidur Rasul messages

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has expressed his approval that a large number of people in the state have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Istana Bukit Kayangan, in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 19), said that the Sultan was glad to learn that 85% of people in Selangor have been fully vaccinated after His Royal Highness and Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah were briefed the Covid-19 situation in the state by Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin on Monday (Oct 18) night.

Istana Kayangan added that Khairy briefed Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Amir Shah on the anti-vaccine issue and the action being taken by the ministry to handle it.

The statement also said that Sultan Sharafuddin urged more hospitals to cater to the state's aged population.

"His Highness also urged that attention and short term plans are given to provide wider coverage of quality psychiatric and mental health care, particularly for Selangor," it said.

Meanwhile, Terengganu's Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin called on his subjects to heed the call of the government to get vaccinated.

He noted that Prophet Muhammad had reminded his followers that they should avoid anything that could bring harm to themselves or others.

"No plunging oneself towards harm or harm to others," Sultan Mizan said when launching the state-level Maulidur Rasul celebration which was held virtually on Monday night (Oct 18).

The Sultan also said that the Covid-19 pandemic had resulted in the loss of loved ones and children becoming orphans.

He added that the pandemic had also caused the loss of jobs and reduction in wages, forcing some to seek help.

"Therefore, I remind Muslims to take more heed of the welfare of neighbours who need help and support when facing the challenges of the pandemic situation," Sultan Mizan added.

The Sultan also called on his subjects to appreciate the sacrifices made by frontliners.
