Charred remains of man found in razed house

KUALA LUMPUR: The charred remains of a man were found inside a burnt-down house in Taman Sri Petaling here.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said they received a call that a double-story terrace house on Jalan 6/149J was on fire at about 1.11am on Tuesday (Oct 19).

"We managed to control the fire by 2am before putting it out completely at 3.11am.

"The fire destroyed 90% of the house.

"The charred remains of a man was found and later handed over to the police for further action," he said.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said initial investigations revealed that the man had been renting the house for nearly eight years.

"The case has been classified as a fire report and sudden death.

"We are still investigating the cause of the fire," he said and urged anyone with information to come forward or contact Brickfields police at 03-2297 9222 or the City police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
