PETALING JAYA: Having too many Malay-based political parties will divide the community, says Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid (pic), adding that his party is sufficient to represent them.

"Umno is enough. If we have more, we will be split into factions," said Mahadzir, who is also Rural Development Minister, said on Saturday (Oct 9).

In a statement, the Padang Terap MP said that there were already too many Malay parties.

It was reported that Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah had plans to revive "Umno Lama."

Tengku Razaleigh led a meeting with Umno veterans on Friday to discuss the matter.

At the same time, Parti Kuasa Rakyat, reportedly led by Kamaruzaman Yaakob, the brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, will be launched on Sunday (Oct 10).
