BUTTERWORTH: Pantai Robina Park in Teluk Air Tawar here will be temporarily closed beginning Saturday (Sept 18) as visitors have not been adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the Seberang Prai City Council mayor, North Seberang Prai district officer and district health officer have unanimously agreed to temporarily close the recreational park to curb the spread of Covid-19 on Friday (Sept 17).

"On Thursday (Sept 16), the North Seberang Prai monitoring task force and I went to Pantai Robina Park in Teluk Air Tawar to monitor the situation.

"We found that there were around 1,000 to 2,000 visitors at the park.

"During the monitoring, it was found that some visitors failed to comply with the SOPs.

"Some of them were not wearing their face masks and did not keep a physical distance.

"Some of the visitors were not even fully vaccinated yet," he said, adding that the park is located in a red zone area.

Meanwhile, MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the park will be closed from Friday (Sept 18) to Sept 22 or a further date.

"The closure was due to non-compliance of visitors with SOPs issued by the authorities.

"The closure was also due to difficulties in controlling visitor attendance which is too much.

"This directive is intended as an early preventive measure to curb the spread of Covid-19 among visitors.

"MBSP calls on all visitors and members of the public who visit this recreational park or any park throughout Seberang Prai, especially those under the supervision of MBSP, to always comply with the SOPs," he said.

On Wednesday (Sept 15), the Mengkuang Dam was ordered to shut for seven days as a preventive measure against Covid-19 after drawing a large crowd over the weekend.
