PETALING JAYA: Umno has suspended its Youth wing exco member Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris for six years after he was found to have violated various parts of the party constitution.
Wan Muhammad, who is also known as Papagomo, was suspended for six years from the party effective Aug 27.
"We would like to inform you that the supreme council met on Aug 27 and decided that your membership rights will be suspended... for six years effective from Aug 27 or for two Umno election cycles," the letter dated Sept 1 read, and was signed by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, reported Malaysiakini.
In the letter that was sighted by its reporters, Papagomo was said to have violated various party regulations including requirements for members to adhere to party instructions, implement party policies, adhere and respect party decisions and to preserve the good name of the party.
In April, a group of Umno members from the Wangsa Maju division lodged a report to the party's disciplinary board, calling for Papagomo to be suspended from the party.
They alleged that he had used his social media accounts to issue statements instead of through proper channels, claiming these were violations of the party's constitution.
Among his posts were of him persuading Umno leaders and grassroots to cooperate with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, even though the party had decided against working with Bersatu at its general assembly in March.
