Focus on your constituents instead of playing politics, Mohd Redzuan tells MPs

GEORGE TOWN: Politicians who have been appointed in government positions should focus more on helping the people instead of playing too much politics, says Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) supreme council member Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.

He said with the situation that the country was facing now, politicians who have been given a mandate in government governance should continue to be with the government especially in the Covid-19 management and the economy.

"If they (politicians) think they want to be selfish for the sake of obeying their political party hierarchy rather than fulfilling their responsibilities with the government, I don't want to comment further," he said.

He however said it was up to politicians in the country to prioritise the people first before themselves.

Mohd Redzuan who was also the Prime Minister's Department (Special Functions) Minister, said politicians regardless of any party could play politics when there was an election but the focus currently was to work together to fix any weakness if there were any in the government of the day.

He was responding to a question from a reporter on the resignation of Umno MP from ministers and government-link-company positions following the party's supreme council decision to withdraw support for the Perikatan Nasional Federal government.

On the alleged attempt to buy MPs to defect to the ruling party Bersatu, the Alor Gajah MP said there are many accusations against the Perikatan currently but squashed the allegations as untrue.

"I don't want to be involved in their allegations. What is important now is for us to carry on our responsibilities in managing the current government," he said.

He urged MPs to wait until September when the government tabled a motion of confidence to determine the legitimacy of the Prime Minister position in the Dewan Rakyat.

He said as an MP who was chosen by the people, they should use the Dewan Rakyat to represent the voice of their constituents.

"There is no need for horse trading in this matter, just wait until Parliament is open this September," he said.

Redzuan was at a briefing on a community empowerment programme held at the Civil Defense Force headquarters.
