Health DG: Conditional approval granted for Moderna Covid-19 vaccine

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has granted conditional approval for the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine, says the Health Ministry.

Its director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this was decided at a Drug Control Authority meeting on Thursday (Aug 5).

“The meeting agreed to give conditional registration approval for emergency use to the 'Spikevax 0.20 mg/ml Dispersion for Injection' mRNA vaccine (nucleoside modified) product,” he said in a statement.

Spikevax is another name for the Moderna vaccine.

The product registration holder is Zuellig Pharma Sdn Bhd and its manufacturer is Rovi Pharma Industrial Services from Spain.

So far, vaccines that have gained approval for Malaysia’s National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme are those from Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Sinopharm, Johnson & Johnson and CanSino.
