Covid-19: New daily high of 20,596 cases bring total to 1,203,706


PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has reported 20,596 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday (Aug 5), the Health Ministry confirmed.

This is the second day in a row of setting new daily case records.

To date, the country has a total of 1,203,706 cases.

In the same 24-hour span, 13,983 people were discharged from treatment.

This brings the total recoveries to 976,626 - or 81% of all cases.

Another 164 people died, taking the Covid-19 death toll to 10,019.

Active Covid-19 cases in the country have risen to 217,061.

Of that total, 1,078 patients are in intensive care units (ICU), while 549 are intubated.

Selangor remained the state with the highest number of cases with 8,549 new infections.

Other states with more than 1,000 cases are Kuala Lumpur (2,163), Kedah (1,446), Johor (1,300), Sabah (1,062) and Penang (1,022).
