All Umno MPs should toe party line and retract support for PN, Muhyiddin, says Perak Umno info chief

IPOH: All Umno MPs should follow the party supreme council's decision to rescind their support for the Perikatan Nasional government and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, says Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun.

The Perak party information chief said it was now the time for all members to prove their loyalty to the party.

"My praise and gratitude go to God who has opened the hearts of the supreme council members in making a firm decision with total agreement.

"The decision made was a selfless one and it is based on the grouses of the people and grassroots members," he said in a statement late Tuesday (Aug 3) night.

"Party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the supreme council member has proved that Umno is a party that upholds the principles of the Rukun Negara and the institution of the Malay Rulers, which is in line with Clause 3.3 of the party constitution," he added.

Ahmad Zahid had on Tuesday said the decision for all its MPs to retract their support came after an emergency supreme council meeting, with signed statutory declarations to back the decision.

Earlier Tuesday, Lenggong MP Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah also announced his decision to resign as the Energy and Natural Resources Minister.

This came as the latest blow to the Perikatan government, whose legitimacy is currently being disputed by Opposition MPs following the recent Royal rebuke over the revocation of the Emergency Ordinances.

Mohd Zolkafly, who is Lintang assemblyman, also congratulated Dr Shamsul Anuar over his decision and upholding the supreme council's decision.

"Believe me, this party is a grassroots party that never gives up hope and will keep fighting for the people with all our efforts," he added.
