KLANG: An investigation team from the Selangor and Federal Department of Occupational Safety and Health( DOSH) are investigating the scaffolding collapse at the LRT3 project site along Jalan Langat, Bandar Bukit Tinggi here.
The Ministry of Human Resources ordered the investigation after a worker was killed and four others injured on Thursday (July 29) afternoon.
The incident happened just after 2.30pm along Jalan Langat at Bandar Bukit Tinggi on the road adjacent to the Premier Hotel.
It said in a statement on Friday (July 30), that the investigation would involve the Forensic Engineering and Construction Site Safety Division.
This is to determine the cause of the incident and if there were violations under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.
Prior to this, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said the injured were three Bangladeshis and an Indonesian whilst the deceased was a Bangladeshi, adding that all five victims were in their 30s.
“We received a call at 2.41pm and arrived at the scene at 2.58pm. A fire engine each from the Shah Alam and Port Klang Fire stations went to the location,’’ said Norazam.
He also said that 16 firemen were at the scene of the incident, including the Andalas Fire Station chief, the Selangor Fire and Rescue operations department deputy director as well as several other officers from the department
South Klang district police chief Asst Comm Shamsul Amar Ramli, who was also at the scene of the mishap, said the five workers were on top of the scaffolding when it collapsed.
“Those who were injured had injuries to their face,’’ he added.
Meanwhile, LRT3 project work package contractor Pembinaan Jaya Zira Sdn Bhd issued a statement saying that a stop-work order has been issued to halt all construction work at the site immediately.
“We are working with the Fire and Rescue Department and are investigating the root cause of the incident,’’ added the statement.
