PETALING JAYA: Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has submitted an application to change his seat in the Dewan Rakyat to be away from the government’s side of the aisle.

The Gua Musang MP - also known as Ku Li - said that he does not wish to be in his current seat, where he is among those who are supporting the government.

“I wish to obtain the agreement and cooperation from the Speaker to move my seat in the Dewan Rakyat to be nearer to the independent bloc which does not support the current government.

“From the start, I have never supported or been aligned with the government that has been set up with the name Perikatan Nasional,” he said in a letter dated July 26 addressed to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun.

He added that he does not know if other Members of Parliament from his party Umno have also made a similar request.

“Whatever their actions are, I myself am willing to request that I be moved to another appropriate seat, as is suitable with the fighting spirit of Barisan Nasional, Umno, and especially my constituents, Umno members and Malaysians.

“This is so that I will not be seen as a supporter of this failed government in the slightest,” he said.

In response, Azhar in a letter yesterday (July 27), acknowledged Tengku Razaleigh's request and said he has ordered the Dewan Rakyat secretary to take the appropriate measures.

"I was informed by Tengku Razaleigh in a letter dated July 26 that he wishes to be seated nearer to the independent bloc.

"As the Parliament Speaker, I acknowledged the Gua Musang MP's request and I have ordered the Dewan Rakyat secretary to take the required actions," said Azhar in a letter.
