Cops to call up Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker over viral video of durian party


BATU PAHAT: Police will call up Batu Pahat MP and Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon to help with the investigations after a video allegedly showing him eating durian with a group of people at a farm in the district went viral on social media.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said that a police report has been lodged over the case and one investigation paper has been opened.

“The case is being investigated under Section 18(1) of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 2021.

“The police will be calling up the Batu Pahat MP and anyone who is involved in the video to help with the investigations, ” he said in a statement here Tuesday (June 29).

ACP Ismail added that members of the public should refrain from any speculation that could hinder the investigation process.

Earlier, a 13-second video went viral on Twitter showing a group of people eating durian at a farm without any physical distancing and some not wearing face masks.

The video has gained more than 180, 000 views with over 8, 000 retweets.
