Trader claims trial to beating up pregnant wife

JOHOR BARU: A man who allegedly severely beat up his pregnant wife has been charged at the Sessions Court here.

Trader Rosmaini Abd Raof, 38, pleaded not guilty in front of Sessions judge Mabel Sheela Muttiah.

According to the charge sheets, Rosmaidi had caused serious injuries to Jahidah Nordin @ Sylvester, 43, by stomping on his pregnant wife and hitting her on the head, face and hands.

He allegedly committed the offence at around 6am on May 4 in a flat at Kampung Aman in Larkin.

He was charged under Section 325/326A of the Penal Code and could be sentenced to a maximum of 14 years in jail with fines if found guilty.

The case was prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor Nur Sulehan Abd Rahman while the accused was not legally represented.

Nur Sulehan asked for bail to be set at RM30,000 due to the serious injuries faced by the victim.

However, the accused asked for a lower bail as he has seven children and three wives.

Mabel allowed bail at RM7,000 with two surety and set July 25 for next mention.

The accused is also required to report to the nearest police station once a month and is not allowed contact with the victim.

The accused did not post bail.

It was earlier reported that the police arrested a wanted man at Taman Bukit Angsana in Kuala Lumpur on June 11 for allegedly beating up his pregnant wife.

The woman, who is a public servant, reportedly was put in the intensive critical unit at Hospital Sultanah Aminah due to the injuries before being transferred to Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar in Seremban, Negri Sembilan.
