Bus driver issued compound notice for ferrying more passengers than allowed

KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained a bus driver for not complying with standard operating procedures (SOPs) after the bus he was driving was found to be carrying more passengers than allowed.

Under the current SOP, the 44-seater bus was supposed to only be carrying 22 passengers.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Zainal Abdullah (pic) said police were conducting an SOP compliance operation when they stopped the bus near a bank along Jalan Tun HS Lee on Wednesday (June 16) morning.

"Police checked the bus at around 7.30am and found that it was ferrying 34 workers to a construction site here.

"Our personnel then ordered the bus driver to go to the Tun HS Lee police station for further action," he said.

He said the bus driver was issued a RM2,000 compound notice while his employer was issued a compound notice for RM10,000.
