BUKIT MERTAJAM: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin says he has received a suggestion to place UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) cardholders in dedicated camps.
This was among the proposals he received from members of the public who have refugees living in their community, he said.
"There are things that need to be considered before we can actually have camps for refugees," he told reporters on Tuesday (June 15).
He said issues which the government has to take into account include location, infrastructure and cost.
"All this will have to be considered before we decide," he said.
Previously, a refugee camp was set up in Sungai Besi to place Vietnamese boat people. The camp was closed in 2001.
