Cops arrest 11 in two anti-gambling raids in Ipoh

IPOH: Police here have arrested 11 suspects in two separate gambling cases under Ops Dadu raids conducted on two houses at Jalan Menglembu Bestari 11 on Saturday (June 5).

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said in the first raid, four men and a woman were arrested when they were found sitting around a table playing poker.

“Our initial investigation revealed that the house was rented by one of the suspects from a friend who is currently working in Singapore, ” he told reporters at a press conference at the Ipoh police headquarters on Sunday (June 6).

ACP A. Asmadi said police seized a gambling table, chairs, a tablet, advertising papers, gambling cards and a total of 439 gambling chips with different values.

“The female suspect is aged 25 and has a prior gambling record. All suspects are aged between 24 and 30. We also seized RM1,745 cash found inside the suspects’ pockets, ” he said, adding the arrest was made at around 5.45pm

In the second case, ACP Asmadi said police personnel arrested another six suspects aged between 25 and 36 at 6.45pm on the same day.

“When the raid was conducted, the suspects were sitting outside gambling using playing cards.

Among the suspects arrested was the owner of the premises, aged 25, who has various prior records, ” he said.

He added that five other suspects also have prior records, including for drug-related offences

“We also seized two plastic tables and six chairs along with 52 gambling cards and RM769 in cash

One of the suspects, aged 26, is working as a food delivery rider. With this arrest, more checks will be made for food delivery riders to see if they are sending food or doing something else, ” he said.

He added that police also issued a compound notice of RM10,000 to each suspect under Section 21A(1) of the Emergency Ordinance.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 6(1) of Open Gaming House Act 1953.
