PETALING JAYA: The number Covid-19 deaths in the country has surpassed the 3,000 mark since the pandemic outbreak last year, after 103 more deaths were recorded on Thursday (June 3).

“The deaths today bring the total number of fatalities to 3,096," said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Nine were foreigners and 94 were locals, he added in a statement.

He also noted that the number of Covid-19 patients requiring intensive care unit (ICU) treatment increased to a new high of 880 cases, two more than the previous record reported on Wednesday (June 2).

Of the ICU cases, he said 446 required ventilator assistance.

Dr Noor Hisham said 24 new Covid-19 clusters were detected in the country – 19 in the workplace, four community infections, and one in the education sector.

He said there are still 683 active Covid-19 clusters in the country.
