Leaders convey condolences to late Perak mufti’s family

IPOH: Messages of condolence have poured in for the family of the late Perak mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria.

On his Facebook page, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said he was deeply saddened by the news.

"We have just lost a distinguished cleric, a murabbi of the ummah who was never tired of devoting his services to spread the Islamic teachings.

"I have many fond memories with the late Harussani. He is a well-respected man," he said.

"In his assertiveness, he was also polite and soft-spoken. He preached wisely and was knowledgeable.

"May his soul be blessed and we pray for things to go on smoothly," he added.

Harussani passed away on Sunday (May 30) at about 2.45pm. He was 82.

He was reportedly diagnosed with Covid-19 about two weeks ago and had been warded at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital’s intensive care unit.

State Amanah chairman Datuk Asmuni Awi said Harussani's passing was a big loss to the country and to Perak.

"He had done so much for the religious institution in the state and will be missed dearly and remembered for his services," he said.

State DAP vice-chairman Dr Abdul Aziz Bari said he hoped that the late Harussani's family would remain calm and patient in facing his passing.

"I hope they will be given strength to go through this amid the Covid-19 pandemic," he said.
