Covid-19: New daily record of 6,806 cases


PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 6,806 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (May 20), a new daily record.

In a Twitter post, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country’s cumulative cases now stand at 492,302.

Selangor recorded 2,277 new cases - the highest figure of all states.

Another three states have more than 600 cases - Kuala Lumpur with 655, Johor with 615 and Sarawak with 608.

In the same 24-hour span, Malaysia also recorded 59 new Covid-19 deaths.

The country’s Covid-19 death toll has now risen to 2,099.

There are 587 people treated in intensive care units (ICU), with 330 on ventilator support.

Another 3,916 were discharged from treatment, which takes the total number of recoveries to 440,032.

There are now 50,171 active cases nationwide.
