Covid-19: Sarawak records five deaths, 405 new cases


SIBU: Sarawak recorded five deaths and 405 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (May 16), says the State Disaster Management Committee.

The five deaths, comprising two women and three men, were reported in Bintulu Hospital, it said in a statement.

Of the 405 new cases, Miri had the most with 98, followed by Sibu (54), Kuching (42), Pusa (37), Bintulu (36), Kanowit (24), Kapit (21), Song (17), Sri Aman (11), Pakan (nine), Serian (eight), Sarikei (eight), Subis (seven), Saratok (six), Selangau (four), Bau (four), Samarahan (four), Betong (three), Beluru (three), Sebauh (three), Lundu (two), Merdaong (two), Tebedu (one) and Belaga (one).

The total number of cases in the state now stands at 38,383.

The committee said 383 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals state-wide.

Meanwhile, a new cluster was detected in Kampung Boyan, Kuching.

"The Kampung Boyan cluster is a community cluster involving three families. A total of 69 people have been screened and 19 of them have been found positive," it added.

Those who tested positive have been referred to the Sarawak General Hospital and later admitted to the low-risk quarantine centre in Kuching for treatment.

A total of 21 compounds were issued for violating the conditional movement control order.

Ten compounds were issued in Serian followed by Kuching (four), Mukah (three), Bintulu (three) and Padawan (one).

The compounds were issued for illegal cock fighting (10), not adhering to physical distancing (four), not wearing face masks (three), staying outdoors after 10pm (two) and fishing (two).
