MELAKA: The health and safety of personnel manning roadblocks are now the main priority for a senior police officer here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Afzanizar Ahmad said he has reminded his men to be additionally careful by not letting their guard down when enforcing the latest movement control order.

"My priority is to take care of the safety of my men as well as the Armed Forces and Rela personnel manning these roadblocks.

"Their well-being is of utmost importance to me," he said after visiting two roadblocks manned by the Melaka Tengah contingent on Friday (May 14) in conjunction with the Hari Raya festive season.

The roadblocks that are under the purview of the Melaka Tengah contingent are at Sutra Wangi in Batu Berendam and Jalan Gapam (Vista Kirana).

ACP Afzanizar said he will make sure that the supply of high-quality face masks and hand sanitisers was available at all times.

He said Covid-19 precautions are crucial to safeguard his men from contracting the coronavirus while being on duty as Melaka recorded 107 cases on Friday.

He said a similar visit was made on the first day of Hari Raya to boost the morale of personnel.
