Serdang cops arrest two, seize RM4,000 worth of ketum

SERDANG: Police arrested two men and seized unprocessed ketum leaves along with liquid ketum with a street value of at least RM4,000.

Acting Serdang OCPD Supt Mohd Rosdi Daud said police raided a shoplot at Lestari Perdana, Seri Kembangan, at around 10pm Monday.

"A team from the Serdang Narcotics Crime Investigation Department had been monitoring the premises for some time before conducting the raid.

"We arrested two men, aged 23 and 32, and seized 190 bottles containing 285 litres of liquid ketum.

"Further checks revealed two large pots containing about 20kg of ketum leaves," he told reporters on Wednesday (May 5).

He said investigations revealed the two suspects had been operating the outfit for two months.

"The suspects allegedly got their supply from the northern region via express buses.

"We are now conducting further investigations to identify the supplier and why they chose to ship the leaves this way," said Supt Mohd Rosdi, who added that each bottle of ketum was sold for RM20, while the unprocessed leaves were worth RM35 per kg.

"The suspects would sell their product to regular clients.

"The 23-year-old suspect had previously been arrested for the same offence in 2019," he said, adding that the second suspect had a prior record for drug-related crime.

He said the suspects have been remanded for four days to assist investigations.
