Suspect arrested after threatening to kill granny for not giving him money


JOHOR BARU: A 23-year-old jobless man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to murder his grandmother if she would not give him money.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the man went to his 75-year-old grandmother’s home in Kampung Batu 16, Sungai Tiram in Ulu Tiram here, at around 6pm on Thursday (April 22) and demanded money from her.

“The suspect was angry when his grandmother refused to give him money and threatened her at knifepoint.

“Scared, the woman ran to a neighbour’s house for help, ” he said here on Friday (April 23), adding that the neighbour then contacted the police.

The suspect was arrested in the grandmother’s home at 12.05am on Friday and police also seized a 24cm knife, Supt Mohd Sohaimi said.

“Investigations are ongoing to find out whether the suspect asked for money to buy drugs.

“The suspect, who has three previous criminal records and two drug offences, is under remand for four days until April 26 for investigations under Section 506 of the Penal Code, ” said Supt Sohaimi.

The offence of criminal intimidation carries a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
