Covid-19: All Sibu govt departments told to close pantries to reduce workplace infections

SIBU: All government departments and agencies here have been told to close their pantries with immediate effect.

Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) coordinator Wong Hee Sieng said on Thursday (April 22) that there had been cases in the district where workplace pantries were discovered to be the source of infection.

"Pantries are usually small areas and usually people don't wear masks there. We strongly advise all staff not to eat at pantries," he said.

The State Housing and Local Government assistant minister Dr Annuar Rapaee said they would issue circulars to this effect.

Dr Annuar also urged employers to advise support staff like drivers, security guards and cleaners to go for Covid-19 screening.

"I strongly advise employers to ensure employees strictly follow the SOP, or they might form a new cluster," he said.
