Covid-19: 15 new clusters, five detected in Kelantan

PUTRAJAYA: Fifteen new Covid-19 clusters have been identified, with five of them detected in Kelantan.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said four of the five clusters in Kelantan were outbreaks in the education sector.

One of the new clusters in Kelantan is named the Kampung Bunut Sarang Burung cluster which has 50 confirmed cases to date.

“This cluster involves staff and students of an education centre in Kampung Bunut Sarang Burung in Tumpat.

“The index case of this cluster had developed symptoms and later tested positive on April 8.

“So far, 121 individuals have been screened in which 50 have tested positive, ” said Dr Noor Hisham on Thursday (April 15).

The Kampung Domis cluster in Tanah Merah also involves students and staff of an education centre.

Dr Noor Hisham said its index case tested positive on April 12 after developing symptoms.

“So far, 152 individuals have been screened and 40 confirmed cases have been found under this cluster, ” said Dr Noor Hisham.

The Kok Lanas cluster in Kota Baru has 31 confirmed cases and the Kampung Labok cluster in Machang has nine cases.

Both are also linked to education centres in the districts.

Another new cluster in Kelantan which has 36 confirmed cases has been classified as a community outbreak.

Dr Noor Hisham said the Kampung Bechah Semak cluster involves a village in Pasir Mas, and the index case was detected positive on April 7.

Other new clusters in the country were detected in Sabah (four clusters), Selangor (two), and one each for Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Terengganu and Kedah.
