SHAH ALAM (Bernama):The water level at most of Selangor's dams is over 90% as of March 22, says Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the only two dams with water levels under 90% were the Sungai Tinggi and Sungai Langat dams at 88.72 per cent and 87.96 per cent respectively, adding that water levels are expected to decrease due to the reduction in rainfall caused by the second phase of the Northeast Monsoon season.
This will cause a hot and dry spell until the end of the month.
"Lembaga Urus Air Selangor is monitoring the situation closely and is prepared with mitigation measures to ensure that the quantity of water resources is sufficient and the supply of treated water runs smoothly, ” he said when officiating the virtual Selangor Water Forum themed ‘Valuing Water’ which was held in conjunction with the Selangor-level World Water Day 2021 celebration on Tuesday (March 30).
Amirudin said the forum was held to create awareness among the people on the importance of water resources in the development process.
"The demand for water is increasing in line with rapid development and a growing population, making water shortages among the main challenges in many countries including Malaysia, particularly Selangor, ” he said. - Bernama
