PETALING JAYA: Malaysia continues to record over 1,000 new Covid-19 infections, with Sarawak logging the highest number of new cases.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Sarawak recorded the highest number with 426 new cases, followed by Selangor (256) and Penang (212) yesterday.
The state made up 32.7% of the 1,302 new cases reported nationwide, with more than two-thirds of its cases coming from clusters and contact tracing efforts.
As a whole, the country saw 1,302 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative total to 341,944.
In the same 24-hour period, there were four fatalities, bringing the death toll to 1,255.
Sarawak recorded two deaths, while there was one death each in Selangor and Kedah.
All were Malaysians who had comorbidities. They were aged between 63 and 77.
There were also 1,127 recoveries, which means 326,309 have recovered from the disease nationwide.
There are still 169 patients in intensive care units, with 76 requiring ventilation support.
Three new Covid-19 clusters were also identified, one of which is a workplace cluster, one involves community transmission, while the third is linked to a detention centre.
The Ladang Sungai Pelek cluster is located in Sepang, Selangor and involves workers at a farm along Sungai Pelek.
There have been 32 positive cases linked to this cluster.
The Patek cluster has 63 positive cases, and involves community transmission.
It involves the districts of Kota Baru and Machang in Kelantan, and it is named after the Kampung Patek cluster where most of the cases were found.
The Pagar Bukit Chagar cluster is located at a detention centre in Bukit Chagar, Johor Baru.
A targeted screening of inmates and staff there identified 52 cases as positive to date.
