KUALA LUMPUR: Some vehicle owners, whose hobby and passion is modifying their vehicles, are willing to disregard the law despite being aware of the dangers, including causing road accidents, says the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
Kuala Lumpur JPJ director Mohd Zaki Ismail said there are reasons for each regulation imposed.
“For example, the use of high-intensity discharge lights can cause temporary vision disruption which can lead to accidents, ” he told a press conference after leading an integrated operation in Jalan Cheras near the Taman Mutiara Mass Rapid Transit station.
The operation started at 9pm on Friday and ended around midnight.
Mohd Zaki said enforcement action taken against these vehicle owners is a last resort to ensure the safety of other road users.
The action, he said, is not to punish but to discipline road users so that the level of road safety can be improved.
‘’We will also conduct advocacy and advise motorists so that they understand every rule and law imposed is for their interest, ’’ he said.
During the operation, Mohd Zaki said a total of 1,750 vehicles were inspected, with action taken against 197 owners for various offences.
In addition, 28 people were instructed to undergo urine tests, with 10 of them testing positive for methamphetamine and cannabis.
Two Myanmar nationals were also detained for not having valid travel documents. — Bernama
