Selangor cops warn of fake website targeting Public Bank customers

PETALING JAYA: The police have warned Public Bank customers of a fake website spoofing the bank's official website.

Selangor Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) chief Asst Comm Muhammad Yazid Muhammad Yew said a 51-year-old woman in Petaling Jaya lost savings in her bank account after clicking on the link and entering her banking details.

"She lodged a police report at the Petaling Jaya police station on Wednesday (March 24).

"The victim received a text message, supposedly from Public Bank with the link, saying that her account was vulnerable.

"She clicked on the link, followed the instructions and filled in her personal details as well as her online banking and password details. Her savings disappeared soon after that," he said in a statement.

ACP Muhammad Yazid said two cases with losses amounting to RM33,500 have been recorded in Selangor so far.

He also reminded the public not to click on the fake link.

"It is a new modus operandi used by scammers to dupe victims," he added.

The official Public Bank website is www.pbebank.com.

The bank also has a series of videos on safe online banking and how to avoid being victims of scams.
