Teacher duped in laptop scam on social media


SIBU: A teacher here lost RM2,150 after he was duped in a laptop computer scam.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said on March 17, the 32-year old victim saw an advertisement on social media about laptop computers being sold for RM2,150.

"The victim contacted the suspect as he wanted to buy a laptop and made an online transfer to the suspect's bank account on March 19," said ACP Stanley.

He added that the suspect could not be contacted after the payment was made.

"He realised that he had been cheated and made a police report on March 21," said ACP Stanley on Monday (March 22)

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
