Nearly 5,000 teachers in Perak to be vaccinated

IPOH: A total of 4,865 teachers in Perak will be vaccinated under the first phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, says Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon.

He said these include 29 teachers in the Batang Padang district who are to receive their jabs today.

“About 163 teachers in Muallim district will also receive their vaccines soon, ” he said after getting his first dose of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine at the vaccination centre in Stadium Indera Mulia here yesterday.

Dr Mah said the ministry has no plans to have vaccination advocacy programmes in schools.

“Since the vaccinations are for those above the schooling age, there is no need for advocacy programmes to be held in schools.

“Under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, vaccines are for those aged 18 and above.

“Therefore, we will be having nationwide roadshows to raise awareness about the advantages of taking the Covid-19 vaccine.

“My office will arrange a roadshow where we will visit several places in Perak including rural areas and Orang Asli villages, ” he said.

Dr Mah stressed that it was important for everyone to register themselves for the vaccination.

“I see no reason why people would refuse to take the vaccine as it will protect everyone and that is how we get herd immunity, ” he said.

“We want everyone to register as soon as possible as it will benefit the people, ” he added.
