Cops detain five over video on funeral of secret society gang member

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested five men following a video that was circulated on social media over a funeral procession involving a hearse which had a logo of a secret society.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar (pic) said police received two reports over the incident on March 16.

"A police officer had received the 36-second video and lodged a report over the incident.

"The hearse in the video had a flower garland and a logo of the ‘Gang 36’ secret society," he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 17).

He said the hearse was believed to be carrying the body of a man.

"There were also debris believed to be from burnt fire crackers shown in the videoclip.

"The video was believed to be recorded at a condominium in Pantai Dalam," he said, adding that a second report was lodged by another police officer over a 58-second video over the same incident.

He said they also found a 14-second video of a man lighting fire crackers in the middle of the road along Jalan Tun Sambanthan.

"Following investigations, we arrested five men, aged between 18 and 26, from 9pm on March 16 to 2.30am on March 17.

"One of the suspects has a prior record for committing mischief and thereby causing damage," he said, adding that police also seized a Toyota Vellfire, Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, a Yamaha motorcycle, a flower garland and a bouquet of flowers arranged to form the logo of the Gang 36 secret society.

ACP Anuar said the deceased was a 28-year-old man who died in a road accident at around 7am on March 14.

"Our investigations revealed the suspects were childhood friends of the deceased and he had told them to light firecrackers if he ever died.

"We advise the public to refrain from being involved in any activities against the law and not join any organisation which is not recognised by the government," he said.
