Home Minister tests positive for Covid-19

PUTRAJAYA: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has tested positive for Covid-19.

He is the third minister this month to test positive this month, after Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed as well as Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri tested positive for Covid-19 in October last year.

In a statement, the Home Minister’s Office said that Hamzah underwent Covid-19 screening on Jan 11.

“The Health Ministry informed the minister that he had tested positive early this morning, The minister will be quarantined and monitored closely by health authorities, ” it said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 12).

His office added that while in quarantine, Hamzah would continue to monitor the ministry’s affairs to ensure it functions smoothly.

“All those who had close contact with Datuk Seri from Jan 8 to Jan 11 should go to district health offices to get themselves screened.

“Datuk Seri Hamzah expresses his heartfelt thanks to well-wishers and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by this latest development, ” said the Ministry.
