KUALA KANGSAR: Datuk Saarani Mohamad has been sworn in as the 14th Perak Mentri Besar at Istana Iskandariah here Thursday (Dec 10).
The Kota Tampan assemblyman took his oath of office before Perak's Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah at the palace here at about 11am.
A press conference by Saarani, who is also Perak Umno chairman, has been scheduled to be held at Dewan Jubli Perak after the ceremony.
After several days of the political crisis in the state, Saarani received majority support of Perak assemblymen on Wednesday (Dec 9).
In the 59-seat state assembly, Umno has 25 seats, Bersatu five, PAS three, Gerakan one and Independent holds one.
The Opposition has 24 seats: DAP (16), PKR (three) and Parti Amanah Negara (five).
Former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu had lost a vote of confidence in the state assembly sitting on Friday (Dec 4) as the MB.
The Perak Bersatu chairman and Chenderiang assemblyman received only 10 votes, with 48 voting against him and one abstention.
The next day (Dec 5), Faizal tendered his resignation before the Ruler.
