JOHOR BARU: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) Football Club owner Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim has extended his condolences to the club’s player, Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad, who lost his newborn baby in a fatal accident.

“We are always with you, Syafiq. May they rest in peace. Al-Fatihah.

I plead with the public to refrain from sharing related photos and videos as a mark of respect to the sensitivity and feelings of Syafiq and his family, ” said the Tunku Mahkota Johor in a statement on Sunday (Dec 6).

The 22-day-old baby of Muhammad Syafiq was killed in a road accident in Penang that also injured his wife and daughter.

Aside from Muhammad Syafiq's baby, 45-year-old Zainab Wahab and a woman in her 30s - Titik Sukanti - were also killed when the multi-purpose vehicle they were travelling in skidded and crashed into a road divider at KM163.0 of North South Highway near Sungai Bakap.

A Penang Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said that Muhammad Syafiq and his two-year-old daughter sustained light injuries, while his wife was seriously injured.

"The department received a call at 5.36am, informing them about the accident and arrived 10 minutes later at the scene," he said in a statement on Sunday (Dec 6).

He said upon arriving at the scene firefighters found six victims in the car, adding that three of them were pinned in the severely-damaged MPV.

He said the firefighters used rescue tools to extricate the bodies from the wrecked vehicle after rescuing the injured victims.

The spokesman added that the victims trapped in the vehicle were successfully extracted at 6.10am.

All three victims were declared dead at the scene and were handed over to the police for further action.

The operation ended at 6.12am.
