Cyclist killed in early morning road mishap

ARAU: A cyclist was killed after being hit from behind by a car at Jalan Kuala Perlis-Changloon.

OCPD Supt Nanda Ma'arof said the 64-year-old victim died on the spot in the 8.40am incident early Thursday (Dec 3).

Supt Nanda said the victim was cycling along the stretch when he was run over by the car.

"Initial investigations showed the victim was on the left side of the road when he suddenly switched lanes and cycled to the right.

"Due to this, the car trailing behind could not apply the brakes in time," he said in a statement.

Supt Nanda said the victim was pronounced dead by medical personnel at 8.53am at the scene of the incident.

He said the remains have been sent to the Kangar Hospital for a post-mortem.

The case has been classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless driving.
