KUALA LUMPUR: A former researcher of the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) who was slashed to death by two burglars in his home in Bangsar was believed to have fought with the intruders.
Police said Dr Wan Hassan Wan Embong was believed to have been slashed with a machete by the burglars who entered the house through the kitchen window of the double-storey bungalow in Bukit Bandaraya yesterday.

Hamid said Wan Hassan, 71, who suffered injuries to the face and neck, was believed to have died at the scene.
His wife, a 70-year-old government pensioner, had slash wounds on the right hand, he said.
SAC Nik Ros Azhan said there was a blackout and the couple were alone at home when the burglars broke into the house at 3.30am.
He said the burglars fled with a wallet and laptop computer, among other things, but the actual value of belongings taken by them had yet to be established.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said the couple’s daughter called the police after her mother informed her of the incident.
ACP Anuar said the case had been classified as murder.
