BALIK PULAU: Police will set-up 10 roadblocks in six main locations in Penang's southwest sub-district 12, which has been placed under conditional movement control order (MCO) starting Friday (Nov 6).
"There will be two roadblocks each at the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge, Queensbay area, Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway and Jalan Teluk Kumbar.
"However, only one roadblock each will be mounted in front of the Sungai Nibong Shell station and Jalan Datuk Ismail Hashim," said Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan during a press conference at the Bayan Lepas police station on Thursday (Nov 5).
Supt Anbalagan said the roadblocks were meant to control the movement of people within the area and at the same time, to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
He said 328 officers and personnel comprising the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Malaysian Armed Force, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and Malaysian Volunteer Corps (Rela) would be involved.
The conditional MCO taking effect from Nov 6 at 12.01am until 11.59pm on Nov 19 would also enable the Health Ministry to conduct targeted mass testing in the area, he said.
The implementation of conditional MCO will affect about 150,000 people living in an area approximately about 26.7sq km.
The sub-district 12 comprises Bayan Lepas, Bayan Baru, part of Sungai Ara, Batu Maung, Queensbay, and Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) 1 to 4.
"We urge the public to give full cooperation to the enforcement personnel during this period," Supt Anbalagan said.
He added workers who work in FIZ areas must have authorised letters from their employer or have their work identification card available when they are stopped at roadblocks in the conditional MCO area.
The conditional MCO standard operating procedures apply, including restriction on inter-district travel except with police permission and for work purposes.
Residents are also not allowed to hold social and recreational activities and schools are to remain closed during the period.
Economic activities will be allowed to operate as normal.
