Student nabbed over murder of schoolmate

KUALA BERANG: Police have arrested a female Form Six student over the murder of a 19-year-old girl in Kampung Lubuk Batu, Telemong.

The suspect, who had attended the same school as the victim until Form Five, was detained at the Telemong police station at 8.15am yesterday when she turned up for questioning with her mother.

Hulu Terengganu district police chief Deputy Supt Mohd Adli Mat Daud said a video recording of the suspect near the victim’s house had gone viral after the body of Siti Nur Surya Ismail was found in her house by her sister on Sunday.

The victim suffered slash wounds and her left hand was severed.

DSP Mohd Adli said the girl gave doubtful answers during questioning and had injuries that resembled bite marks on her hands.

“Belongings reported missing from the victim’s house were recovered from the suspect’s house during follow-up investigations.

“Among the valuables recovered were a handphone, cash and beauty kits belonging to the victim,” he added.

DSP Mohd Adli said the girl visited Siti Nur Surya at 9am on Sunday and a fight was believed to have broken out due to a misunderstanding.

The suspect will be taken to the Marang Magistrate’s Court today for remand.

Siti Nur Surya’s brother Mohd Zarif Amir said his mother, who is suffering from brain cancer, had yet to be told of her death. — Bernama
