Video of elderly man driving against traffic, causing accident circulated on social media

SHAH ALAM: A video of an elderly driving man against traffic flow and causing an accident has been making its rounds on social media and WhatsApp.

In the one-minute and 13-second video, the light brown Perodua Kelisa is seen dodging traffic along a busy highway here.

A motorcyclist recorded the incident and claimed the driver had already caused one accident and was still driving against the traffic for about two kilometres.

The video ends after the Perodua Kelisa is seen colliding head on with a purple Perodua MyVi.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Baharuddin Mat Taib said the incident occurred at around 5pm along the Kemuning-Shah Alam Highway(LKSA) on Thursday (Oct 29).

"A Honda City turned turtle when it tried to avoid colliding with the Perodua Kelisa near KM3.1 of the highway.

"The Perodua car then continued travelling against traffic before it collided with a Perodua MyVi near KM6.6 of the same highway," he said.

He added that the 33-year-old driver of the Honda was rushed to a private hospital after suffering injuries while the driver of the Perodua MyVi escaped injury.

He said the 73-year-old driver of the Perodua Kelisa was detained for investigations for driving dangerously and recklessly.

"Investigations revealed the elderly man had driven out from his house at Section 8 here to a hypermarket at Section 13 but took a wrong turn and entered the highway.

"When he reached the Sri Muda Toll Plaza, he realised he did not have a Touch 'n Go card and made a u-turn and started driving against traffic to get home.

"The man's son said a he was brought home by passers-by and was later brought to the Shah Alam police headquarters to lodge a report," said ACP Baharuddin.
