209 learning institutions in Kuching red zones to close from Oct 30 - Nov 13

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): A total of 209 learning institutions in Kuching district in Sarawak, which has been confirmed as a Covid-19 red zone by the Health Ministry, will be closed from tomorrow (Oct 30) until Nov 13.

The Education Ministry (MOE), in a statement, said they include primary and secondary schools under the ministry, teacher education institutions, matriculation colleges and private schools that are registered with the ministry.

"Schools and learning institutions that have hostels are also closed. Parents or guardians are required to pick up the students at the hostel and bring them home.

"However, students who wish to remain at the hostel during the period will be under the care of the hostel warden, with their food and drinks to be provided by the school or learning institution concerned,” it said.

MOE said for students who need to sit for international examinations as scheduled during the period, they must obtain a letter from their respective schools to attend the examination.

"During the closure period, the administrators of the affected schools and learning institutions are required to ensure that teachers and students continue with their teaching and learning process at home.

"The home teaching and learning manual can be downloaded from the MOE's official portal www.moe.gov.my," it said.

The ministry, in a separate statement, also said that all educational institutions registered with the MOE including kindergartens, day schools, boarding schools, private schools, vocational colleges and matriculation colleges in the Federal Territory of Labuan will continue to be closed until Nov 13.

This, followed the extension of the conditional movement control order in Labuan from Oct 31 to Nov 13. - Bernama
