PETALING JAYA: The Petaling District Health Department will continue to conduct Covid-19 tests for all residents at Pelangi Damansara Flats at Persiaran Surian after 23 people tested positive for the virus.
Petaling District Disaster Management Committee chairman Johary Anuar said the tests started on Oct 21 and followed through until Thursday (Oct 22) that involved residents in Block B.
“I am told that residents in Block B have completed the test,” he said.
Johary added that the results of the Covid-19 tests on Pelangi Damansara residents will take four to five days.
The Pelangi Damansara Flats area comes under two constituencies.
Blocks A, B, C, G, I and J come under Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong while blocks D, E, F and H come under Bandar Utama assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
Wong when contacted confirmed that testing has begun since Oct 21, adding that there are close to 1,000 flat units in the compound.
An estimated 6,500 people live at Pelangi Damansara.
"It will be time consuming but this test needs to be done for the people’s wellbeing, especially those with symptoms,” she said.
Johary advised residents to follow the strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) to stem out the disease.
Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya district police chief Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said policemen have been based at the Pelangi Damansara Flats to facilitate the Covid-19 tests.
“Our men will ensure that the people abide by the Covid-19 SOPs which require physical distancing. We need to get people to comply,” he added.
Medical personnel had questioned most residents to determine a person’s risk for Covid-19.
“Most of them were asked about symptoms being experience, their whereabouts in recent weeks and exposure to someone who has been confirmed to have Covid-19,” said Johary.
