PUTRAJAYA: The Kepayan Prison and the staff quarters in Kampung Matambai in Kota Kinabalu will be placed under an enhanced movement control order (MCO) beginning Oct 20, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Defence Minister said this decision was made by the National Security Council (NSC) after being briefed by the Sabah government on a spike in the number of infections and new cases in the area.
“Following advice from the Health Ministry, we will place the prison and staff quarters under enhanced MCO until Nov 2.
“This will involve 3,511 people, including 2,914 inmates as well as 597 prison staff members,” he said on Monday (Oct 19).
The minister said that movement will not be allowed and screening will be conducted to identify and treat those who are positive.
He said the state government will distribute food supply to those affected and they are to follow the standard operating procedures listed for enhanced MCO.
