Six new clusters detected, says Health DG

PETALING JAYA: Six new clusters have been detected in the country including the Tropicana cluster in Selangor, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Dr Noor Hisham said the six new clusters were discovered in Kuala Lumpur (two clusters), with one each in Sabah, Selangor, Johor and Putrajaya.

He said that the Tropicana cluster was detected in Petaling, Selangor involving an index case who tested positive for the virus during a high-risk area (Sabah) screening on Oct 2.

"The index case has been admitted to the Sungai Buloh hospital. As of noon on Oct 12, a total of 147 individuals were screened in which 14 tested positive, 105 tested negative, while 28 others were still waiting for their results," he said at the ministry's Facebook live press conference on Monday (Oct 12).

Earlier, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal announced that 23 local and foreign employees of the Tropicana Golf and Country Resort tested positive for Covid-19.

Dr Noor Hisham said the Bah Kasturi cluster was detected in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, Cheras and Putrajaya districts, as well as in Klang, Petaling, Hulu Langat, Gombak and Kuala Langat districts in Selangor.

"The index case of this cluster was identified from a Covid-19 high-risk (Sabah) screening on Sept 13 and has been admitted to the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Negri Sembilan.

"A total of 305 individuals have been screened in which 18 tested positive, 277 tested negative while 10 others are still waiting for their results," he said.

Meanwhile, in the new cluster detected in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur dubbed the Bah Perdana cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said the index case was identified from a high-risk area (Sabah) screening on Sept 28, adding that the patient has been admitted to the Sungai Buloh hospital.

From this cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said 22 individuals have been screened where nine tested positive, and 13 still waiting for their results.

Under the Baiduri cluster, it was detected in Hulu Langat, Selangor and in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur where the index case was found to be positive Covid-19 after a pre-surgery screening on Oct 7.

"A total of 39 individuals have been screened in which 18 tested positive, 12 tested negative while nine others are still waiting for their results," he said.

In Sabah, Dr Noor Hisham said the Kolong cluster was detected in Keningau.

He said the index case in this cluster was identified during a community screening on Oct 7 and the patient has been admitted to the Lahad Datu hospital.

Dr Noor Hisham said 92 individuals have been screened where eight tested positive, 81 tested negative while three others are still waiting for their results.

In the Rinting cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said it was detected in Central Melaka and in Johor Baru.

"The index case in this cluster was identified during a workplace screening on Oct 7 and the patient has been admitted to the Melaka Hospital," he said, adding that eight people tested positive, 97 tested negative while 57 others are still waiting for their results.
