IPOH: Six schools in the Larut Matang Selama (LMS) district will be closed for seven days following the Covid-19 cases reported in the area, says state education committee chairman Razman Zakaria.

When contacted, he said the schools were ordered to close as part of the National Safety Council's (NSC) early prevention initiative to stop Covid-19 from spreading.

“All six schools will be closed starting from Monday (Oct 12).

“Among the schools ordered to close are SMK Bukit Jana, SMK (P) Treacher Methodist, SMK King Edward VII, SK Convent Kota, SK Ulu Mengkuang and SK Taman Jana.

“These school are located near a detention centre that has records of Covid-19 cases in Taiping, ” he said Sunday (Oct 11)

It was reported on Thursday (Oct 8) that the Education Ministry has ordered all schools in Covid-19 red zones to be closed from Oct 8 until 23.

To date, there are 13 red zones in Malaysia – Kota Setar, Klang, Petaling, Kota Belud, Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Papar, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna and Tawau.

Razman also said his office is monitoring the situation from time to time.
