Teacher in Johor tests positive for Covid-19

JOHOR BARU: A female secondary school teacher here has tested positive for Covid-19 after she came in close contact with a case linked to the Bakawali cluster.

State health and environment executive committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said the teacher was infected with Covid-19 by her husband, who also tested positive.

“The husband is among the nine close contacts who tested positive from the Bakawali cluster,” he said here on Thursday (Oct 1).

He stressed that the department has carried out decontamination at the husband’s workplace, which is a laboratory and added that it has since been closed.

Vidyananthan said all of the laboratory staff have also gone through Covid-19 tests and been ordered to stay at home for 14 days.

“We have also conducted investigations and tracing of close contacts among teachers and students," he added.

Vidyananthan said that these close contacts have also been tested and have been told to stay at home for 14 days as well.

“Until Wednesday (Sept 30), the department has identified 157 close contacts where 70 showed negative while 87 were waiting for results,” he added.

He also said that as of Wednesday, the cumulative case for Covid-19 reported in Johor stands at 767 cases with 15 being active, 731 cases discharged and 21 deaths.
